Poll: Obama has 40 percent approval rating in Indiana

OBAMA FOR USA

The poll released Friday by WISH-TV in Indianapolis found that 62 percent approved of the job that Gov. Mitch Daniels is doing, while 58 percent approved of Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

Obama is a Democrat, while Daniels and Ballard are Republicans.

The poll also confirmed what many Indiana residents already knew. The issue that voters care most about is the economy.

The poll showed 43 percent named the economy, while 15 percent named health care and 12 percent said education. Nine percent said taxes were the top issue and 6 percent named family values.

Daniels suggested earlier this year that the next president should call a truce in the political battles over social issues so the nation can focus on its most urgent problems, including the economy. Some social conservatives disagreed.

Polling firm EPIC-MRA conducted the statewide telephone survey of 500 likely voters from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.(courier-journal.)
